Multi-Platinum, multi-award-winning South African Reggae and Hip-Hop artist Menelik Nesta Gibbons, widely known as Don Dada, returns with his latest double album, The Struggle & The Crown.
Released by Ruff Cutt Studio CC and distributed worldwide by Tuff Gong International, the project follows Don Dada’s previous album The Heart & The Mind and continues his focus on conscious music, African identity and social realities.
The Struggle & The Crown is divided into two complementary albums. The Reggae side explores Roots Reggae alongside Afrobeat, Dancehall and contemporary African influences, while the Hip-Hop side incorporates Kwaito, Amapiano and modern African production.

The project examines two sides of the same journey. The Crown represents African heritage, spirituality, creativity and potential, while The Struggle confronts realities including inequality, displacement, violence and social injustice.
At the centre of the Reggae album is “PEACE,” a track inspired by the enduring message of conscious Reggae and built around themes of compassion, healing, unity and collective responsibility.
“Every crown carries responsibility. Every struggle carries purpose. Without struggle there is no crown, and without purpose there is no legacy.” — Don Dada
Production on the project brings together Sabelo “Take Over” Maphalala, Leroy Scarlett of Reggae Powerhouse Band, and award-winning SuperProducerRapz, with the wider creative direction overseen by RasMoe of RuFF CuTT Studios and South African creative and music business specialist Axolile “Lucky Mke”, professionally known as Sbali / NowIam. The Crown.
The visual identity is once again created by South African portrait and mixed-media artist Ras Silas, following his work on The Heart & The Mind.
With The Struggle & The Crown, Don Dada continues to connect Roots Reggae, Hip-Hop and contemporary African sounds while placing African identity, resilience, spirituality and social consciousness at the centre of the conversation.
The Struggle & The Crown is available worldwide via Tuff Gong International distribution.
