Three-Time Grammy Award Winner Brings a New Solo Voice to the Marley Legacy
For Sharon Marley, Firebird represents more than a debut album. It marks a new chapter for an artist whose musical journey has already been part of reggae history.
A three-time Grammy Award winner through her years with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Sharon has spent decades connected to one of Jamaica’s most influential musical families. In 2026, she is stepping forward with her own voice.
Released in March, Firebird is an 11-track solo project that brings together reggae, blues, jazz, soul and R&B influences. Sharon describes the album as a deeply personal body of work, four years in the making and dedicated to her mother, Rita Marley.
The project also carries a strong family connection. “Island” brings Sharon together with her sister Cedella Marley and Rica Newell, reconnecting voices associated with the Melody Makers era. The album also features “Steppah” with Jamaican veteran Big Youth, one of the project’s standout collaborations.
But the story around Firebird is not simply about stepping out from a famous family name. In recent interviews, Sharon has spoken about rediscovering herself as a solo performer and about the personal journey behind the music.
Speaking with Canadian Beats in August, Sharon described her first solo live performance at Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario in 2024 as a “Reawakening.” The experience gave her the confidence to continue developing her own musical path.
That journey continued in Toronto in August, where Sharon performed Firebird live at the Ode Hotel and took part in an audience Q&A. The intimate performance brought the album’s themes of love, transformation and personal renewal directly to her audience.

Sharon’s Grammy history remains an important part of the story. Her work with the Melody Makers earned three Grammy Awards, while Firebird now gives listeners an opportunity to hear her in a distinctly personal setting.
The album is deeply connected to her Jamaican roots and to the influence of her parents, Bob and Rita Marley, but Sharon is not simply revisiting the past. Firebird presents her perspective at this stage of her life, reflective, spiritual and focused on renewal.
As she continues performing and introducing the project to new audiences, Firebird gives Sharon Marley space to build on a remarkable musical legacy while defining a chapter that belongs to her.
